Each year, many Unitarian Universalist congregations begin the new church year with a Water Communion. Members and friends are invited to bring a small amount of water from a place that is meaningful to them—a favorite stream or lake, a recent journey, their home, or simply their kitchen tap. During the service, these individual waters are poured together into a common vessel, creating a shared symbol of our diverse experiences, interconnected lives, and commitment to one another. As the waters mingle, we celebrate both the unique paths that bring us together and the community we create as we begin a new year.
