Nothing We Do Will Be Perfect

Despite the fact that none of us is perfect, perfectionism shows up again and again in our faith communities and in our individual lives, especially in our work to build a more just and loving world. What’s up with that? Though we will mess up, say the wrong thing, and get uncomfortable, we as Unitarian Universalists are called to the work of justice and of love now. We’ll explore together in worship how our faith both encourages and holds us as we embrace the reality of imperfection in our striving and in our lives.

Rev. Tara (they/she) serves as Transitional Minister at Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church in Portland, ME. Tara is a graduate of Yale Divinity School and recently wrapped up three years with the Eliot Church, a blended UU/UCC congregation in the Boston suburbs. Tara and their partner Laura, also a UU minister, live in northern Massachusetts with their ridiculously goofy dog, Maizel, where they spend their days navigating life as a clergy couple, getting out into nature, working for justice, and reading great books.
