Death is a topic most people avoid, yet it’s a journey we will all one day take.
This service gently opens the door to that conversation—offering a space that is both comfortable and deeply informative. You’ll explore death through both a spiritual and practical lens, to prepare with grace, clarity, and compassion.
Anne Whigham, M.S.
Anne has over 40 years of experience in social services, working as a family therapist, program manager, and program developer. Her deep exploration into the topic of death and dying spans decades, during which she has led workshops and guided individuals through meaningful conversations about the end of life. She has attended death doula training and currently volunteers with Hospice of Spokane and Shalom Ministries. Anne’s personal and professional experiences have shown her the importance—and the peace—that comes when we are prepared to die.
Barb Romero, BSN, PAC
With 50 years in medicine, Barb Romero, a registered nurse and Family Practice Physician Assistant has centered her work around connection, compassion, and deep listening. Barb expanded her calling in 2024 by completing death doula training. Her personal journey with loss, especially the recent passing of her 97-year-old mother in 2025, transformed her view of death into something sacred. Today, she is devoted to demystifying death, bringing her medical wisdom, spiritual insight and open-hearted presence to help others approach the end of life with openness, dignity, grace, and peace.
Workshop Following the Service
After our social time, Barb and Anne will answer questions and share practical guidance about the paperwork that needs to be completed before death. The session will begin with 10 minutes of open discussion and Q&A, followed by a review of the Death Plan Checklist—Essential Documents and info for family/others. The checklist is designed to guide you through key documents, and decisions, that help ensure that your wishes are respected, your loved ones are supported, and legal requirements are met.
