Winter Solstice Service

Join us next Sunday morning, December 17 at 10:30 a.m.,
at Rockwood Community Center or online on Zoom

Winter solstice is the shortest day and the longest night of the year. “Solstice” in Latin means “the sun standing still.” Traditionally, it is a time of both foreboding and expectancy, as the longest night leads to the return of the sun. The Winter Solstice has become important to both humanists and pagans, who can find common ground in celebrating this occasion. Themes can include the cycle of life; darkness as restful and generative; and other explorations of light and darkness. Join us to share in the fire of community in this time of winter’s low dark sky.

Liz (she/her) began her activism in PJALS’ youth group as a Deer Park high school student after looking up “peace” in the phone book. She worked as an organizer and educator in unions and community groups on issues including marriage equality, racial justice, and worker rights before returning to the organization that helped shape and define her work as a young activist. She is passionate about grassroots leadership development and supporting youth as leaders. In all that she does, Liz holds fast to the belief that everyday people have the power to build a just and nonviolent world. Liz has acted as PJALS director since 2009.
