Our Connectedness

Multi-Platform Service at Rockwood Community Center and on Zoom

Sunday, September 15 we return to combined in-person and online Soul Weaving services! Bring the kids and teens in your life, so we can all celebrate Water Communion together, and they can have time together designed for them. We will provide the water.

Our guest speaker, Jacob Johns, will talk to the adults about “Activism Through Ancient Wisdom: Bridging the Past and Present for Contemporary Climate Policy.” As a dedicated Indigenous activist and artist, Jacob will explore the powerful intersection of ancient wisdom and modern activism in the context of contemporary climate policy. Drawing from his Hopi and Akimel O’Otham heritage, Jacob will share insights on how traditional ecological knowledge and spiritual practices can guide us in addressing the urgent environmental challenges of our time. Jacob will discuss the importance of honoring the Earth as a living entity, the role of Indigenous leadership in global climate movements, and how we can all contribute to a more sustainable and just future. Through personal stories, reflections, and calls to action, Jacob will invite the congregation to deepen their understanding of activism as a sacred duty and to embrace the lessons of our ancestors in the fight for a livable planet.

Jacob Johns, of Akimel O’Otham and Hopi heritage, stands at the forefront of change as the lead organizer of “A Wisdom Keepers Delegation.” As a dedicated Community Supported Organizer, Jacob crafts and implements innovative strategies to dismantle oppressive systems, leveraging frontline activism, strategic campaign planning, and impactful digital content to amplify powerful messages.

Jacob’s art, deeply rooted in cultural heritage, ignites global consciousness and champions Indigenous decolonization. Since January 2023, Jacob has led efforts to unite Indigenous wisdom keepers worldwide to create transformative climate policy, advancing these initiatives at UNCOP and SB 60 in Bonn, with a culmination set for November 2025.

After surviving a near-fatal shooting last year, Jacob returned with unyielding determination, completing critical work at COP 28 just weeks after leaving the hospital. Jacob highlights the indispensable support from the community, leading weekly calls and shaping transformative policy platforms for A Wisdom Keepers Delegation. Through relentless global organizing, multilingual outreach, and a strong presence at key events, Jacob remains committed to amplifying Indigenous voices and fighting for a just, healthy, and livable future.
