Marijke will share her perspective on the history of ecumenical/interfaith movements as well as local and international efforts to build community. She will highlight the 40 year history and legacy of The Fig Tree and its work to build community in the inland Northwest through sharing stories and empowering people.
Marijke Fakasiieiki is development and editorial associate of The Fig Tree since June 2020. She graduated with a masters of divinity from Pacific School of Religion in 1998, and received a certificate of theological studies from Bossey Ecumenical Institute with the World Council of Churches in Switzerland in 1996 studying international conflict resolution with theological students from around the world. She studied in the master of religious studies program at Gonzaga. She received her bachelor of arts from the University of Oregon in International Studies and German. She has been an interfaith/ecumenical consultant with faith-based non-profits, interned with the national United Church of Christ office in Washington D.C., and with the World Council of Churches in Geneva, Switzerland working on fundraising, education and advocacy issues for vulnerable communities. She is married to Ikani Fakasiieiki, a Tongan theologian and has three children.
