An article about the Red Hat knitters—a few of whom are part of our INUUC community—appeared in The Spokesman-Review this week:
A small group of Spokane knitters is turning yarn into a statement. Inspired by a historic Norwegian resistance symbol and recent “Melt the ICE” activism, local women have been knitting and placing red tasseled hats around town—including on the Bloomsday runner statues—as a peaceful form of protest against federal immigration actions and the Trump administration’s policies. What started as a therapeutic craft circle has grown into both a creative expression and a fundraiser for anti-ICE and anti-Trump billboards in rural areas north of Spokane.
