Native American Sites and Stories

Lake Wallula is a short stretch of the Columbia River located just south of Kennewick WA. It was on the banks of these waters that the skeletal remains of Ancient One (also known as Kennewick Man) were discovered in July 1996. The story of these remains, the subsequent legal controversy, and their importance to Native Americans is explained in the YouTube video titled PBS Documentary | First Peoples – Americas Part1/5, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuuOWTZzuB4.

Native American remains continue to be held in various institutions, including in Washington State: https://www.axios.com/local/seattle/2023/01/19/washington-state-institutions-indigenous-remains
