Each year, five local nonprofits are selected for “spotlighting” at INUUC. The Circle has 13 categories to consider and attempts to rotate using the criteria that appear below. In 2024-25 the Circle provided a donation of $500/organization. Each organization is also offered the opportunity of presenting at a Soul Weaving service.

Listed below by category are the organizations that have been spotlighted or earlier, received special collections, at INUUC since February 2021.  (2) following the name means the organization was selected twice.

All of the organizations accept individual financial donations, many offer volunteer opportunities and some accept donations of clothing, food, etc.

Criteria the Circle uses to select the organizations:

  • The organization must be a local 501(c)(3).
  • It must provide direct service to people and/or indirect advocacy for, or organizing of, people for policy change.
  • It must have a significant need for financial assistance.
  • Our team has an equity lens and holds a focus on nonprofits supporting vulnerable communities and issues, e.g., racial justice, LGBTQ, housing/unhoused, climate, hunger, criminal justice, classism, poverty.
  • When looking at the year we are cognizant of what is going on in the community and world and how that may impact the nonprofit we would like to spotlight. We look at the year holistically and ensure we are spotlighting organizations focused on a variety of topics throughout the year/years.
  • The organization must pass a due diligence check by a Circle member and a discussion by our Circle to ensure consensus that it is a good selection.
