INUUC Collection for Transition’s Women’s Hearth

December 17 at the Rockwood service and party

Two social justice items were approved by the GC this week as we realized that Spokane’s winter and our unhoused population’s need are just around the corner. The first, supporting planned sleeping centers in churches, is still in the planning stages. We hope to put that invitation to our community in the next couple of months. For the second item, collections for Women’s Hearth, a day center in downtown Spokane, there will be containers for donations at our Sunday service at Rockwood and at the party afterward.

Our community is so fortunate that we have the warmth of friendship and the ability to give joyfully to those who struggle to be warm physically and who find kindness and care during the daytime at the Hearth. To that end, we share the list of pressing needs for women living without housing. The short list below is offered by our own Ariel Fitzgerald who works with these women at Women’s Hearth.Biggest needs right now:

  • Money for bus passes (checks with “bus pass” on the tagline)
  • Colored pencil packs
  • Art/crafting supplies/journals
  • Blankets
  • Cough drops

For a more comprehensive list please see the Women’s Hearth website at https://help4women.org/womens-hearth/

If you are not in town or will not be at the December 17 service or party, you may mail checks made out to Women’s Hearth to INUUC at 411 S. Washington, Spokane 99203. If you would like one of us to pick up something, or you can drop it off, please let us know at socialjustice@inuuc.org
