We are building the church we want. . . .together.

Town Hall,  Thursday, December 2, 2021, 6:30 p.m. (on ZOOM)

Determining INUUC’s Social Justice Action Initiatives Please join the Social Justice Circle to voice your ideas as we plan the next six months and look toward our Annual meeting as a place to set budgetary requests for the following year.  INUUC’s Social Justice Circle’s mission is encourage and support the congregation in educating itself about social justice and decide how it wants to engage. In other words, we are a coordinating committee. Single issue groups can join us for mutual support in advertising, requesting volunteers, and more. How do you want to put our collective social justice heart into action? Let’s share an understanding of ways to advance social justice. Examples are not exhaustive, just suggestions. Advocacy—for othersPublic march/speak at City Council/contacting decision-makers/letters or postcards, perhaps completed during a Coffee Hour after church. Organizing—with others for the common good Spokane Alliance/PJALS Direct service—to individuals or small community groups who support individualsSCAR — Court watch/police concerns/care for people who are experiencing homelessness and poverty Financial support—to add value to all of the aboveBudget a percentage of church income each year for social justice in the Inland NW. A view of what we’ve done since February, 2021

  • Through Special Collections, donated $7,870 to local organizations  (This does not include Nov.’s amount for the Salish School)
  • Joined Spokane Alliance: $1,050  per year
  • Donated $500 to support PJALS
  • Paid (individually) $375 for an ad in the Black Lens News to support SCAR’s Platform for Change

During our Town Hall we will answer these questions:

  1. How do you want our church to impact the Inland Northwest?
  2. If you can act now, where will you offer your gift of time?
  3. Should the Social Justice Circle request that 10% of INUUC’s annual budget be pledged toward social justice action?

And we will talk about what keeps us up at night or where we feel compelled to act:

  • Climate crisis
  • Racial injustice—dismantling white supremacy
  • Unhoused people/poverty/hunger
  • Incarceration/police/legal system
  • Equity for Indigenious Peoples
  • Other?

If you can’t join on Dec. 2nd, your voice can still be heard if you email your answers to lanniemacandrea@msn.com.
