The Power of Patience: The Calm in the Storm

The world seems more unstable and unpredictable day by day. Whether it be the pandemic, the climate crisis, the social upheaval, or political and economic divides, our planet seems to be coming untethered from its course in so many ways.

How does this all affect each of us and how does our spiritual practice keep our minds steady and compassionate in the middle of the storm, whether it be within ourselves or others?

Venerable Thubten Semkye will invite us to revisit our powerful and beautiful friend, patience, that is needed more than ever as we try to develop an internal stillpoint in our hearts to return to during these unsettled times.

Our returning guest speaker, Ven. Thubten Semkye, is from Sravasti Abbey in Newport, WA. Ven. Semkye was the first lay resident in 2004 and became the Abbey’s third nun in 2007. In 2010 she received full ordination in Taiwan. Ven. Semkye draws on her extensive experience in landscaping and horticulture to manage the Abbey’s forests and gardens. She is the chant leader for teachings at the Abbey, gives monthly Youtube talks, and helps facilitate the weekly meditation classes in Spokane. Venerable Semkye also contributes to Spokane FAVS “Ask a Buddhist” and to interfaith outreach in the local community. We are so pleased she could join us today!
