Report from General Assembly

Greetings from GA delegates, Stephanie Samson and Lannie MacAndrea!
INUUC was not certified in time to have delegates, but the Church of the Larger Fellowship selected us as two of their twenty-two regular delegates knowing that we would also be representing INUUC.
Thank you, CLF!

We were honored to represent CLF and INUUC at General Assembly 2021. Now that it’s over, we want to let you know some of what happened.

We were thrilled that the delegates passed, with 93% in favor, a Statement of Conscience entitled Undoing Systemic White Supremacy: A Call to Prophetic Action*. We hope you’ll read it and begin thinking about how our community as a whole and how you individually can move forward in this very important work.

The delegates also passed three Actions of Immediate Witness, all of which we voted in favor of:
Stop Voter Suppression and Partner for Voting Rights and a Multiracial Democracy*(2021)
Defend and Advocate with Transgender, Nonbinary, and Intersex Communities*(2021)
The COVID-19 Pandemic: Justice. Healing. Courage.*(2021)

Two Responsive Resolutions passed which, again, both of us voted for. Responsive resolutions are responses to reports made during GA; they are not binding, but they represent strong feedback and input of the assembled congregations. The two resolutions passed were:

Article II Responsive Resolution: Include Systemic Anti-Racism in Principles
Divestment Responsive Resolution: Creating a More Just Future Through Divesting from Pipelines and Investing in Young People

Finally, there was one contested Board election; we were pleased that the person we both voted for, Rev. Sam Trumbore, won that spot. The other positions on the Board, as well as Financial Advisor and the positions on the Commission on Appraisal, the General Assembly Planning Committee, and the Nominating Committee, were all uncontested.

General Assembly is more than just voting, however. There were amazing presentations,  that we will discuss in a Town Hall and perhaps small groups as well. It is truly wonderful to make new friends and meet older ones at GA! We are so happy to be in touch and in concert with the UUA and our Region. Also, please note that the next UUA Board of Trustees Open House in on July 27th at 4pm our time.

Next year’s General Assembly will be a hybrid in-person and virtual event in Portland Oregon, June 23-27, 2021. We hope you’ll consider attending!
