Standing with Immigrant Families Workshop

Have you been wondering how to support Spokane’s immigrant community, but don’t know your first step? Join us for this interactive workshop on June 21 to learn about immigrant contributions to Spokane’s culture and economy and how current laws and policies impact our immigrant neighbors. Leave with ideas on actions you can take as an individual or a faith community to live out the call to “love our neighbor as ourselves”.

Presenters Julia Presar and Cheryl Lydon are retired educators and members of Unity Spiritual Center Spokane. Julia, with a Master’s in Education from Western Washington, found inspiration through her work with immigrant colleagues and immigrant-lead organizations in the Seattle area. Likewise, Cheryl, holding a Doctorate in Education from the University of Washington, worked with immigrant communities during her tenure at the Educational Service District in Puget Sound. Both women felt a call to take action on behalf of Spokane immigrants after seeing immigrants vilified, arbitrarily losing their legal status, anxious about profiling and afraid of immigration enforcement.
