Bridging the Divide: Tools for Courageous Conversations

(Join us downstairs in the Social Hall at Friends)

Many would argue that our country has never been more divided. Differences in values and beliefs are straining relationships with family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.

But what if we had practical tools to listen and communicate more effectively, and maybe even find some common ground? Join INUUC as we gain simple strategies to bridge the divide, one conversation at a time.

Rachelle Strawther was raised Catholic, but at 22 made the difficult decision to leave the church. Over the next decade, she searched for a spiritual path that truly aligned with her values and beliefs. Just as she was beginning to feel discouraged, she visited a Unitarian Universalist church in 2013—and found what she had been looking for. She hasn’t looked back since. Her global experiences in Kenya, Ethiopia, Italy, and Colombia have deeply shaped her worldview and commitment to exploring different perspectives and cultures. Professionally, she is the founding Director of the Center for Lifelong Learning at Gonzaga University, where she has served as both Staff Assembly President and a University Regent. Outside of Gonzaga and her nonprofit work, you can find her playing pickleball and spending time with her husband, adult(ish) kids, and fur babies.

We are continuing our new approach for third and fifth Sundays. On those weeks, we gather downstairs in the social hall at Friends rather than upstairs in the sanctuary. These Sundays follow a more interactive format, with workshops, discussions, and community-focused programs in place of our usual service.
