Welcoming Congregation Workshop

Special Fifth Sunday Workshop

(No service upstairs in the Sanctuary—not on Zoom)
Location: Social Hall (downstairs)

Next Sunday’s gathering will be a workshop, not a traditional Sunday service. Instead of meeting upstairs in the sanctuary, we will meet together downstairs in the social hall for a watch party and guided discussion. Come at 10:30 for a cup of coffee. The Ware Lecture recording will start promptly at 10:45.

This Fifth Sunday event will be part of our ongoing work toward becoming an LGBTQ+ Welcoming Congregation. We’ll engage with the UUA study guide for the 2025 Ware Lecture by Imara Jones:
“Love at the Center: Defending Trans Lives and Democracy.”

Together, we’ll explore key themes from the lecture—including manufactured fear, wedge politics, dehumanization, sacred care, and spiritual transformation—using provided prompts and discussion questions designed to move us toward thoughtful reflection and meaningful action.

Imara Jones, an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning journalist, is the creator of TransLash Media, a platform dedicated to advancing understanding and shifting the cultural narrative around transgender lives.

We are also considering offering this program on Zoom—if you are interested please let us know at admin@inuuc.org

We are beginning a new approach for our third and fifth Sundays. On those weeks, we will gather downstairs in the social hall at Friends rather than upstairs in the sanctuary. These Sundays will not follow our usual Sunday service format. These gatherings will be more interactive—workshops, discussions, and community-focused programs. This coming Sunday will be a workshop sponsored by our Welcoming Congregation Team, marking the start of this new pattern.
