Two Rooms Available in Perry District

Come live at the convenient and fun Haystack House in the Perry District, just two blocks from the Grain Shed to the east and Wisconsin Burger to the west. We are also 1/2 block from a frequent bus route.

The Vibe: We are three professional women, one cat, and a doggie looking for two new housemates who want to live in an intentional community home (no more pets, please). Someone who has some previous experience with co-living in a shared house with shared chores is preferred, but not necessary. We are respectful, fun-loving, and caring housemates who schedule community meals as often as possible and truly enjoy each other’s company. If you enjoy gardening and cooking, this is the place for you!

The House: Built in 1895 by immigrant and architect Frank Swenson, the Haystack House is built with plenty of Swedish Romantic Revival charm. A rock turret built onto the back of the cottage in the 1920s gives this estate a castle-like feel. Generous downstairs furnished common spaces include a full kitchen with commercial quality appliances, and an elegant living/dining room with hardwood floors throughout. The common great room centers around an antique Batchelder gas fireplace and a wall-to-wall custom built-in maple bookshelf. Other amenities include a new quality sauna in the basement, indoor bike storage, limited shared onsite storage, central air, and free washer/dryer laundry machines.

Upstairs Room #1 for Rent: This large upstairs dormer room has a medium sized closet with two large windows that look out onto a charming hand-built carriage house across the entrance to the gardens underneath a large trellis. This room has great light morning, noon, and night. The floor is a low-pile wool carpet with a thick pad in good condition with just a few divots from previous furniture. A custom-tiled master bathroom with a claw-foot tub, separate standing shower, and views of Mt Spokane is shared with two housemates on the same floor, with additional bathroom facilities downstairs. Rent is $620 plus share of utilities.

Upstairs Room #2 for Rent: This upstairs dormer room has a small walk-in closet with a large bank of arched windows that open and have adjustable blinds and look out onto our front yard. This room has great light morning, noon and night! The floor is bamboo wood in great condition. Charming built-ins, antique lighting and doors add character to this airy space. A custom-tiled master bathroom with a claw-foot tub, separate standing shower, and views of Mt Spokane is shared with two housemates on the same floor, with additional bathroom facilities downstairs. Rent is $630 plus share of utilities.

Both rooms require a 12 month lease (our hope is folks will stay longer and they usually do) as well as first and last month room rent and a $300 deposit. Applicants must be available for an IN-PERSON interview at the house during the last two weeks of September. We are aiming to make our final decision by October 1 so our landlord has time to run background, credit, and rental history checks before a move in date of November 1, 2025. Move-in is possible in October with a prorated rent and lease addendum. We will call or text to invite selected candidates for interviews.
