Challenge Proposed Federal Slashes to Medicaid and SNAP. Budgets are documents that manifest our values. And the recent House Budget Resolution proclaims that our federal government—claiming to speak for our country—values greed over care, might over right, the unimaginably wealthy over those earning their livelihood day to day. Mass Protests Planned to Counter Trump’s Birthday Military Parade
“Donald Trump wants to spend tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to throw himself a big fancy parade with tanks in the streets,” said one organizer. “This is straight out of the authoritarian playbook.”
Participate in Democracy
Calling your congresspeople is the most effective way to influence policy.
Tell them to protect democracy, Medicare/Medicaid, social security, science, and civil rights!
Tell them not to give tax breaks to billionaires.

Congressman Michael Baumgartner (R)
202-225-2006
509-353-2374
Senator Patty Murray (D)
202-224-2621
509-453-7462
Senator Maria Cantwell (D)
202-224-3441
205-220-6400
If you want talking points, go to 5calls.org or download the 5 calls app to your phone.
We must call Representative Baumgartner and vociferously complain!
Call both offices. No amount of calling is too much! Spokane 509-353-2374; DC 202-225-2006. Voice your opposition to cutting Medicaid and social programs to give tax breaks to billionaires. A sample message, but feel free to embellish and make it your own:
“Hello, I’m a constituent (give your name if desired) in (city, zip). I’m calling to let Representative Baumgartner know that I am opposed to the finance bill that will cut Medicaid and cause rural hospitals to close. When you vote in favor of cutting Medicaid that will take away benefits from your constituents, you are not working for your constituents. Rather you are working for Trump and billionaires. I am opposed to any bill that cuts Medicaid.”
Have fun and make these calls your own. Find your voice and your way of expressing what you want to happen. As Toni Morrison said, “There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal.”
New Social Action Monthly Newsletter
Monthly Newsletter: We are pleased to announce that INUUC will be sending out a monthly newsletter focused on Social Action. Action is at the core of our faith. As a community and as individuals we advocate, organize, and act for justice to live out our UU values. The newsletter will provide opportunities for you to make a difference. We hope that everyone will get involved and we realize that the engagement will look different for each person. A variety of opportunities will be highlighted in each newsletter. For now, the focus will be saving U.S. democracy. The first newsletter was sent on April 30 and highlighted a protest, calling your representatives, and the website SaveUSA.me (https://www.saveusa.me/) which aggregates the protests, events, and activities in Spokane. The newsletter will be sent to everyone who receives the weekly INUUC newsletter.
