Several announcements were sent out via our newsletter and our local news has covered the open house Friday at Westminster announcing the new facility to care for unhoused people leaving Sacred Heart or Deaconess hospitals who need respite care. This facility is opening today Monday January 13th. It is managed by Jewels Helping Hands and coordinated with both Providence Health Care and Empire Health. I toured it today and am so impressed with how they remodeled the 2nd floor facility to house up to 30 residents. When residents are ready to leave this facility Jewels will do everything they can to make sure they have a place to go and not go on the streets. Last Wednesday I attended a SON (social action team) meeting with members of Westminster church and we came up with a list of items that are currently needed if you are interested in helping with this new facility. Towels, wash cloths, twin top and fitted sheets as well as pillow cases. These can be new or used and should be in usable condition. Donations can be dropped off at the church on Sunday during the time it’s open for the service (usually between 10:00 am and 12:00 am) in the greeting area or during the week if you have access to the building. Westminster is going to provide one meal a month for the facility and if we want to do the same it would a greatly appreciated. If you have any questions please call or email me. Stephanie Samson |
